Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) is the second hardest synthetic material after diamond and is produced in a high pressure, high temperature environment. Historically, CBN was designed to replace synthetic diamond in machining hard and very hard carbon containing materials (chill-cast iron, hardened steel, etc.). As properties of CBN material have improved it is currently widely used for cutting and machining such materials as manganese steel, carbon fibre composites, engineering ceramics and hard alloys.

High impact resistance is the main distinguishing feature of CBN produced by MICROBOR NANOTECH. This feature is determined by the unique properties of the CBN powder and by optimizing the process of composite synthesis. Microbor CBN retains the properties of other CBN materials such as high Knoop hardness and thermal resistance

The most recent development of MICROBOR scientists is a unique nano-CBN composite. The main advantage of the tools made of this material is enhanced wear resistance and as a result ability to effectively machine highly abrasive materials.
